HawkMountainSanctuary offers college-level courses in cooperation with CedarCrestCollege, Allentown, Pennsylvania. Courses concentrate on raptor ecology, hawk migration, and ornithology, and can be taken for academic credit or on an in-service basis.
Most courses earn one credit hour and meet for three hours on a Friday evening followed by all day Saturday and Sunday. Students taking courses for credit must submit a short research paper on a course-related subject.
Location: Classes meet at the HawkMountainAcopianCenterfor Conservation Learning during weekend sessions. Fieldwork is conducted in and around the 2,600-acre Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, with its diverse flora and fauna and exceptional geomorphology. Outdoor components are held rain or shine and participants should dress appropriately.

Course Fees: Cost for a one-credit course is $266 plus a $35 site fee. Cost for a two-credit course is $532 plus a $50 site fee. Audits are allowed for a fee of $266 and the site fee. Dynamics of Raptor Migration: Bio 253—1 credit Sept 25 (8 am-4 pm) and Oct 16 (8 am-4 pm) Instructor: Gail Farmer, Hawk Mountain Participants receive help in identifying 16 species of migrating raptors and learn about the biology and ecology of migration.
Introduction to Field Ornithology: Bio 252—2 credits Sept 3-5, October 1-3; Fri 7-9 pm; Sat & Sun 8 am-4 pm Instructor:Dr. Chris Farmer, Hawk Mountain Senior Research Biologist Introduction to the ecology, behavior and identification of birds in forest, riparian, and meadow habitats.
