College-level Courses at Hawk Mountain

Hawk
Mountain Sanctuary offers college-level courses in cooperation with Cedar Crest College , Allentown, Pennsylvania . Courses concentrate on raptor ecology, hawk migration, and ornithology, and can be taken for academic credit or on an in-service basis.

Most courses earn one credit hour and meet for three hours on a Friday evening followed by all day Saturday and Sunday. Students taking courses for credit must submit a short research paper on a course-related subject.

Location: Classes meet at the Hawk Mountain Acopian Center for Conservation Learning during weekend sessions. Fieldwork is conducted in and around the 2,600-acre Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, with its diverse flora and fauna and exceptional geomorphology. Outdoor components are held rain or shine and participants should dress appropriately.

Hawk Mountain Members: fee without college credit is $175. Members should register through the

Course Fees: Cost for a one-credit course is $266 plus a $35 site fee. Cost for a two-credit course is $532 plus a $50 site fee. Audits are allowed for a fee of $266 and the site fee. n introduction to basic ecology and conservation in field settings designed to increase awareness and understanding of environmental issues.

Dynamics of Raptor Migration:  Bio 253—1 credit

Participants receive help in identifying 16 species of migrating raptors and learn about the biology and ecology of migration.
