David Middleton

David has visited the Sanctuary since the 1970s and has a deep interest in Hawk Mountain and raptors. A 30-year veteran outdoor photographer and author, he has traveled globally to tell stories through captivating photographs and has led more than 300 photography workshops in places such as Antarctica, Alaska, the Canadian Arctic, U.S. National Parks, and Ecuador. David is a former Contributing Editor of Outdoor Photographer Magazine, co-founder of Crossroads Photographic workshops, the former executive director of the Photographer’s Alliance Workshops company and a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens.
He is also the founder and executive director of the foundation All About the Light, a non-profit created to encourage photographers to give small yet powerful solar lights, Luci Lights, to the energy impoverished people of the world. He has published 14 books, including his most recent, Main Coast Memories.
More than an outdoor photographer, David is a gifted and enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about sharing his experiences and expertise with others. He finds great joy helping others discover their creative potential. When he’s not behind the lens, lecturing, or touring, he resides on an old dairy farm in the mountains of southern Vermont.
