During our Autumn Hawkwatch, our counters tally hundreds of osprey passing over the Lookouts. This past season, a specific osprey named Wausau was tracked by OspreyTrax possibly passing over Hawk Mountain on the morning of September 6. He was their first bird to pass over the Sanctuary!

The male osprey spent the night of Sept. 5 on the ridge just near 309, north of New Tripoli. He then flew early on the morning of the 6th, presumably passing North Lookout at 7 am. Next he turned south flying past the north side of Lancaster around 9am, switching to thermals.

Wausau is from New Hampshire's north country, and his trip to his winter waters just east of the Andes in Colombia took just 36 days.
