White-throated sparrows (Zonotrichia albicollis) are making regular visits to the Visitor Center Feeders.

These attractive sparrows can be identified by distinct black stripes along the crown and eyeline, a yellow spot between the bill and eye, and the neat white “bib” throat patch contrasts a gray breast.

White-throated sparrows are a common winter songbird and are easily recognized by their whistling song. Aside from birdfeeders, you can find them in forests and forest edges, often foraging in the underbrush. They breed in Canada and overwinter in southern states, including Pennsylvania.
