This year Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is celebrating its 90th anniversary of being the first refuge for birds of prey and home of the longest-running raptor migration count in the world. On Friday, May 10, 2024, Hawk Mountain will launch its inaugural 1934 Challenge, prompting the community to support the Sanctuary with donations of $19, $34, or $90 over the course of 1934 minutes, or just over 32 hours. The challenge will kick off at 11 AM on Friday and conclude at 7:14 PM on Saturday. This challenge will raise funds to directly support the many facets of raptor conservation that stem from Hawk Mountain, locally and globally, including the successful and far-reaching international Conservation Trainee Program.

Contributions of $19, $34, or $90 can be donated at hawkmountain.org/1934challenge. As always, THANK YOU for your support.

This fundraiser coincides with the spring celebration of the Sanctuary’s 90th anniversary. During these 1934 minutes, the mountain will be a bustle of activity with the Benefit for the Birds on Friday evening (sold out!) and a full day of presentations and discussions from former Hawk Mountain trainees and interns—90 Years of Raptor Conservation: Hawk Mountain’s Global Reach. Not only will these featured alumni share their work in raptor conservation education and science, but they will represent a vast network of conservation collaborators that tie back to the Sanctuary. Dozens of trainee alumni will be flocking to the Mountain for this first-ever trainee reunion, all in celebration of the legacy and progress of Hawk Mountain.

In addition to the full day symposium, the popular Raptors Up Close program will be held per usual inside the Visitor Center at 11 AM and 2 PM. Local food trucks, Why Not Burgerz and The Perk Up Truck, will be stationed in the main parking lot all day Saturday for visitors to enjoy.
