Hawk Mountain Unveils New Educational Trail Kiosk and Map
Posted on July 05, 2023 in Special Projects
Thanks to funding through partners at the Appalachian Trail Conservancy, Hawk Mountain designed and built a new kiosk that promotes the importance of the Kittatinny Conservation Landscape along with safe hiking tips and an updated, oversized map of the Sanctuary's 8+ mile trail system. Hawk Mountain’s award-winning stewardship team harvested salvaged chestnut oak wood to hewn and construct the sturdy, timber frame.
The project was a large collaborative effort of several departments and was financed in part by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, Environmental Stewardship Fund, under the administration of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation. The Kittatinny Ridge is a global, national, and state Important Bird Area that is vital to migratory birds for habitat and for its climate resiliency. Be sure to look for these new educational panels at the Hawk Mountain trail entrance to learn more during your next visit!
