Annual Fall Native Plant Sale Returns Sept 16

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary will host its annual Fall Native Plant Sale on September 16, from 10 AM – 3 PM outside the Visitor Center. The sale will feature close to 100 species of native trees, vines, wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs. The sale is open to the public, and all proceeds benefit Hawk Mountain's conservation and education programs.

Native plants for sale will include native wildflowers including asters, goldenrods, milkweeds, coneflowers, and black-eyed susans, and more. Dedicated native plant volunteers will be available to advise on finding the perfect plant for any yard. Plants will be organized by habitat, either sunny/hot or shady/wet, making it simple to identify which plants will best suit a home landscape. Additionally, the Visitor Center bookstore carries a selection of native plant gardening books for those interested in learning more.

The Native Plant Sale takes place during peak raptor migration season, making it the perfect time to visit the Sanctuary and explore all the events taking place. The trails and lookouts will be open allowing visitors to enjoy the early fall leaves and view the magnificent raptor migration. Free weekend programs are also available.

Additionally, mid-September is peak migration for the monarch butterfly. The Sanctuary’s Monarch Day event will also be taking place on September 16 where you can learn from biologist John Drummond about monarchs and their conservation at the Monarch Conservation Station. John will discuss monarch biology and conservation efforts. Also learn about Hawk Mountain's annual butterfly count and monarch migration data, and leave with FREE milkweed seeds - five varieties available while supplies last.
